The 2018-19 Season

Outreach

1

FTC Meet 'N' Greet at Chantilly Library.

On August 18th we hosted a meet 'n' greet at the Chantilly Library. We were very fortunate to have the FIRST platform in order to share our robotics and FTC experiences with so many people varying in different ages. We enjoyed teaching others about the FIRST programs and were excited to guide others into joining this incredible program. We would like to thank team FROGbots, Shockwave, Oakton HS, and South Lakes HS for attending to help us share our journeys in FTC with others. Check out our previous FTC Meet 'N' Greet Flyer, and keep a look out for similar ones in the future!

2

Becoming a Non-profit Organization/Charity.

This year our team applied for the 501(c)3 plan and became a non-profit organization. Now we will be able to receive tax deductible donations with a sponsorship/donor receipt or donation letter. If you would like to learn more about becoming a non-profit, please feel free to contact us!

3

Chipotle Fundraiser - Do Good With Burritos.

On December 19th we held a fundraiser with Elden Street's Chipotle. We had to advertise the event and help Chipotle earn at least $300, then we would earn 33% of the proceeds. Unfortunately, our fundraiser only brought $224 in total sales. Because this fell below the minimum required sales amount of $300, we did not receive a check for that event. However, it was a great learning experience and we learned more about advertising in our community.

4

FTC Crash Course

On January 2nd, 2019 we will be hosting an event where we will teach students and parents of all ages about how FIRST programs work, programming, mechanics, CAD, and more! We hope to see you there! For more information about this event check out our flyer or contact us if you have any questions.

5

Our Social Media

Our team believes that the best way to spread awareness on FIRST is by social media. We have an Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter page. These three pages are a way for us to post about any outreach events or fundraising opportunities we are holding. We also have a Snapchat account where we are able to use its stories to add daily posts about our meetings and the progress of our robot. We also have a YouTube channel where we post our competition events and how robots run on a competitive game field. This is perfect for rookie teams or others who are interested in FIRST programs to have a look at how the competitions are formatted.  This year, we created a new and upgraded version of our website. It consists information about our team, FIRST program descriptions, contact us page, and our blog. In our blog, we talk about the important parts of FTC and how it has impacted and helped us grow into the individuals we are today.

6

Guiding Teams

Some rookie teams have also come to our meetings to observe how we format our meetings and ask for advice. We recently met with Team Capitol Bots and guided them on how the competition works, gave explanations about our robot’s chassis and mechanisms, our programs/autonomous mode strategies, sessions on how to CAD, tips on outreach/ the engineering notebook, and more. If you are interested in creating your own FIRST programs team or are a new team looking for assistance, you can contact us anytime!
